Kettle Moraine's Sam Frank and Eau Claire Memorial's Brady Keegan shared Player of the Year honors.

The Wisconsin High School Golf Coaches Association has announced its all-state boys teams for 2008, and many of the same faces should be back next year because five of the eight first-team selections are juniors.

Leading the way are Kettle Moraine junior Sam Frank and Eau Claire Memorial senior Brady Keegan, who earned co-Player of the Year honors. Frank and Keegan tied for second with rounds of 142 in Division 1 at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association state meet at Madison’s University Ridge.

The other seniors are Jeff Groose of Brookfield Central and Ryan Prickette of Appleton Xavier. Groose finished fourth at state with a 144, while Prickette tied for fourth with a 150 to help Xavier to a 622 total, which earned them the trophy ahead of Madison Edgewood’s 626 in Division 2.

The strong group of juniors also featured Hartland Arrowhead’s Mike Sorenson, Edgewood’s Cody Strang, Wausau East’s Anthony Aicher and Whitefish Bay’s Jack Schultz.

Sorenson carded a 149 to help Arrowhead win the D-1 team title at 599, four shots better than Madison Memorial. Meanwhile, Strang fired a 147 to tie for first in the D-2 medalist standings but won a playoff.

Aicher placed in a three-way tie for seventh with a 149 and Schultz tied for 10th at 150.

The second and third teams included seven athletes.

Five seniors spearhead the second unit: Madison West’s Mike Battista, Edgerton’s Mike Hesselman, Kenosha Bradford’s Chad Ebert, Sevastopol’s Cam Fuller and Appleton East’s John Anderson.

Battista shot a 70-70-140 to win D-1 medalist honors. Hesselman shared top honors with Edgewood’s Strang but lost the D-2 playoff, while Fuller finished fourth in helping Sevastopol to second place behind Eleva-Strum.

Rounding out the second unit are junior Ricky Hearden III of Green Bay Notre Dame of Division 2 and freshman Andrew Steinhofer of Madison La Follette.

The third team includes D-1 competitors in D.C. Everest junior Greg Fehrman, Madison Memorial sophomore Quinn Moe and Kenosha Bradford senior Chad Ebert; D-2 golfers in Portage junior Lee Swan, Catholic Memorial senior Dan Semrad and Xavier freshman John Weyenberg; and D-3 participant Jake Nelson, a junior from Ladysmith.
