Here are the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference athletes of the week who have state ties.
Men’s cross country
UW-Eau Claire’s Chris Wirtz, who hails from Weston and D.C. Everest High School, led the Blugolds to the title in the 10-team Warhawk Invitational at Whitewater. Wirtz won top honors with a clocking of 27:42 over the 8,000-meter course.
Women’s golf
Onalaska freshman Emily Swift represented UW-Eau Claire at the Midwest Classic in Ham Lake, Minn., carding rounds of 86 and 80 for a 166 total in the 36-hole event, which gave her a tie for ninth place.
Women’s soccer
Amanda Prawat of UW-Stevens Point, a senior forward from Oregon, scored four goals and registered three assists during victories against Edgewood College (7-0) and UW-Stout (5-0), which earned her the league’s offensive player of the week laurels. She had one goal and two assists vs. Edgewood and recorded a hat trick with an assist against the Blue Devils.
UW-La Crosse senior midfielder Erin Wilson of Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln and UW-Oshkosh junior Bailey Williams of Omro also were nominated.
Meanwhile, Amanda Clark of Lakeland High School, a senior goalkeeper at UW-La Crosse, garnered defensive honors after turning in shutouts against Viterbo University (1-0) and UW-Superior (3-0) and helped the Eagles earn a 1-1 double overtime deadlock against St. Thomas (Minn.). She recorded 10 saves against the Tommies and 13 total. She now has 13 career shutouts, which places her third in school history.
The other nominees were UW-Eau Claire freshman defender Alyssa Walker of Madison West, UW-Oshkosh sophomore goalie Laura Neve of Waukesha South, UW-Platteville freshman defender Tara Porter of Evansville, UW-River Falls freshman forward Kelsey Kizlik of River Falls, UW-Stevens Point sophomore midfielder Mary Jean Cornelius of West Bend and UW-Stout senior midfielder Mone’t Morning of Hayward.
Women’s tennis
The top honors for singles play went to Kalla Schaefer, a Madison Memorial product who’s a freshman at UW-Whitewater. Schaefer sits at 7-0, including a 4-0 mark at No. 1, which featured a 2-6, 6-2, 10-7 decision against Kelly Dvarik of UW-Milwaukee, who was a second-team Horizon League choice last year. That gives Schaefer four victories over foes who held NCAA Division III rankings a year ago.
In doubles, the UW-Oshkosh tandem of senior Jenna Abbott of Oshkosh North and freshman Emily Bostwick of Whitefish Bay earned recognition for their 2-1 week that featured 8-6 wins against UW-Stout and UW-Eau Claire.
