All four teams in this week's volleyball rankings, including Burlington Catholic Central (photo at left) in Division 4, remained the same.

Here are some notes about this week’s rankings in several sports, including boys and girls cross country, volleyball, boys soccer and girls swimming.

Cross country

Stevens Point continues to hold the top spot in Division 1 boys, while Madison West, Neenah, defending champion Madison La Follette and Milwaukee Marquette round out the top five in the Wisconsin Cross Country Coaches Association poll.

Wisconsin Lutheran remains on top in Division 2, while defending state titlist Port Washington sits in second. Tomahawk is third, Catholic Memorial fourth and 2007 runner-up Shorewood has the No. 5 position.

Meanwhile, Marshall has the No. 1 spot in Division 3 and is followed by Sevastopol, defending title winner La Crosse Aquinas, Darlington and Brookfield Academy.

In girls competition, last year’s state runner-up, Whitefish Bay, keeps its top standing ahead of Waukesha West and Janesville Craig. Bay Port, which finished third at state a year ago, is No. 4 and Onalaska rounds out the top five.

In D-2, Catholic Memorial and Wisconsin Lutheran share the top position. Dodgeville/Mineral Point is third and Pewaukee fourth. Mount Horeb/Barneveld and Tomahawk are tied at No. 5.

Defending champion Boscobel tops the D-3 ratings. Darlington sits in second, while Marshall and Sevastopol share the third spot and Aquinas finishes the top five.

Volleyball

Nothing has changed among the top four teams in all four divisions in this week’s Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association rankings.

In Division 1, the top five positions remain the same: Milwaukee Pius XI, Muskego, West Bend East, Menomonee Falls and defending champion Watertown. However, Middleton and Kenosha Tremper entered the ratings at Nos. 9 and 10, respectively.

The D-2 charts show a little shuffling, namely Madison Edgewood moving up a spot to fifth, switching positions with Lodi. Otherwise, defending champ Kettle Moraine Lutheran, Waukesha Catholic Memorial, Waupun and Appleton Xavier hold down the first four spots.

In Division 3, Wisconsin Heights, Sheboygan Area Lutheran, Eau Claire Regis and defending titlist Cuba City stay in the top four spots. But Grantsburg and Manitowoc Lutheran each inched up a rung to fifth and sixth, while last week’s No. 5, Deerfield, fell to seventh.

Two-time defending trophy winner Burlington Catholic Central tops the D-4 rankings, with Green Bay NEW Lutheran, Potosi, Faith Christian and Sheboygan County Christian holding down the rest of the top five.

Boys soccer

Milwaukee Marquette continued to be the top choice in this week’s Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association Division 1 rankings.

The Hilltoppers (14-2-1) hold down the top spot ahead of Hartland Arrowhead (14-3-1), which has moved in front of No. 3 Milwaukee Pius XI (20-1). Appleton North (20-0-3) and Brookfield East (12-2-5) round out the top five.

Marquette is ranked second in the latest Region VI list behind Salem of Canton, Mich. Arrowhead has the No. 7 spot, Pius XI is at No. 8 and Brookfield East sits at No. 12.

Marquette also is rated No. 16 in the national poll.

Meanwhile, Waukesha Catholic Memorial (13-3-3) has grabbed the top position in the Division 2 ratings, which feature Green Bay Notre Dame (16-3-1) up to No. 2 and Madison Edgewood (12-2-1) in third among the top five.

Division 3 also has a new leader. Racine St. Catherine’s (12-4-1) has that designation, followed by Kohler (18-2) and last week’s top team, Kettle Moraine Lutheran (16-3).

Girls swimming

Madison Memorial took the top spot away a league rival, while DeForest held onto its lofty position in this week’s Wisconsin Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association girls polls.

The Spartans moved up two spots to take the lead in Division 1, bumping past Big Eight Conference rival Madison East and Hartland Arrowhead, which each dropped a spot to second and third, respectively.

Waukesha South/Mukwonago and Middleton rounded out the top five. Meanwhile, the big advancers included Oregon and Wausau East. The Panthers leaped up five positions to sixth while the Lumberjacks rocketed up eight spots to No. 9.

In Division 2, the Norskies held a slight edge over Milton by five points and No. 3 Shorewood by six points.

The big movers included Baraboo up five spots to No. 4 and Monona Grove up seven positions to No. 6.
